Miss Christine

Miss Christine

Miss Christine, the moniker of bassist and singer-songwriter Christine Moad, blends indie rock with blues and soul influences, delivered with a defiant punk attitude to open listeners’ minds to possibilities beyond the gender binary. Their message of radical self-expression manifests in songs that are both intensely personal and challenging of the harmful stereotypes and expectations associated with gender and sexuality. Even the name Miss Christine turns the gender binary on its head. The “Miss” has nothing to do with womanhood and everything to do with absence and longing. In this case, it’s the longing for truth and freedom from misguided external perceptions.

After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Christine toured internationally as a professional bassist and worked as a session player in Nashville before moving to a farm near Iowa City where they wrote and recorded their first two albums. It was there they founded Band-Camp, an annual two-day celebration of queer music, empowerment, and resistance solely advertised by word-of-mouth.

Since moving to Cambridge, MA in 2023, Miss Christine has extensively toured Midwest and New England Pride Festivals, and cultivated a strong community of queer and trans allyship across the United States, becoming sought-after for their jubilant performances and their engaging and informative Empowering Identities: A Genderqueer and Asexual Music Experience presentation.

Last Devotion with Mibble and Ruby Lou

Last Devotion-A great  project that is just getting started.  It is a bit more in the indie-rock vein, for lack of a better term.  Think part trip-hop, part Radiohead with a great female front person.

Mibble is Mike Parham and Natalie Roll. Trying to make recordings that we can listen to
over and over again.

@ruby._.lou is a piano-driven, rock and roll band born out of the DIY scene in Western MA fronted by Kasey Greene of the psych-rock outfit Carinae. After moving to NYC in 2023, the band has shaped a sound that could be described as a mixture of rock & roll and cosmic country. They’ll have you stomping the floor and jumping around but also can be tender and sweet; evoking sensibilities of the saccharine underground.

Low Stakes Band
Apr
26

Low Stakes Band

Low Stakes is what happens when two musicians get fed up with polite art and sanitized songwriting, trading it for sharp, unfiltered folk-rock that says the quiet part loud. Eric Colville and Ann Holbrook write with the lyricism of Paul Simon and John Prine, the hooks of The Byrds or Tom Petty, and a true punk ethos—not the safety-pin costume version, but the original DIY, anti-establishment refusal to play nice when nice isn’t honest. Their songs move from meditations on war to a sincere ode to Underwear Inspector #12, living in the friction between humor and heartbreak, absurdity and depth, grief and joy—it’s the whole ridiculous mess of being human crammed into a melody. Low Stakes isn’t background music; it’s for people who are tired of swallowing their truth, who’ve laughed at funerals, raged at the news, and still somehow believe in something. Their music feels like a conversation with the smartest, saltiest friend you’ve got: someone who loves you enough to tell you the truth, even when it stings, even when it’s funny, and especially when it counts.

Christa Joy and the Honeybees

Americana with a classic country flair, Christa Joy and the Honeybees are a local favorite here in the valley. The band includes Lisa Marie Ellingsen (lead guitar), Tim Bowles (pedal steel), Jason Smith (drums) and Tom LeBeau (bass). The songwriter’s recent collection recorded with the band, Christa Joy and the Honeybees, paints a versatile picture of the group’s talents—ranging from kitschy humorous gems like “God Gave Me Two Babies” and “Omens,” to emotional ballads like “Time and Luck” and the sparser indie flavor of “Again and Again.”

Joy is known for her strong sense of melody, resonant storytelling, and charming sincerity. She has played at many notable New England venues, including the Parlor Room, the Iron Horse and Club Passim. She has opened for some of her heroines, including Lucy Wainwright Roche, Meg Hutchinson, The Sweetback Sisters, Loudon Wainwright III, and Antje Duvekot. Perhaps more importantly, she is a Mom of three and a Forest Kindergarten Teacher in Western Massachusetts. You can follow her more closely on Substack and IG as Momsongwriter.
